JEE Main
JEE Main- A Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination in India. It is used as the sole admission test by the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). What is JEE Main Exam?

For candidates belonging to SC/ST category – there is a relaxation of 10% marks i.e they should have at least 65% marks in aggregate in their 12th class examination.
National Testing Agency (NTA) for JEE Main
The National Testing Agency or National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in July 2015 to serve a single purpose: conduct, administer and maintain standards of academic accreditation across the higher education system in India.
The major role of the agency is to establish testing facilities at all accredited institutions. The decisions pertaining to admission will be taken by the respective institution. Similarly, evaluation of exams at every level, awarding ranks, etc., is the sole jurisdiction and power of respective evaluators (NCERT/ CBSE).
JEE Main Exam Details
The JEE Main exam is held for admission to both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with candidates having to sit for two separate papers. For admission to undergraduate programs, candidates take paper 1 (B. E./B. Tech.), while those who wish to enroll in postgraduate programs sit for paper 2 (B. Arch./B. Planning). Paper 1 also includes a drawing test for B. Arch./B. Planning aspirants.
JEE Main Exams Notification and Exam Dates
JEE Main is conducted by NTA twice a year. The first attempt is usually held in the month of January and the second attempt is in April. The exam is conducted at various centers across the country. Students belonging to different streams such as science, arts, and commerce can apply for the exam. JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
JEE Main 2020 eligibility criteria are mentioned below:
– Candidates should be Indian citizens.
– Foreign nationals are also eligible to apply for JEE Main.
– Appearing candidates who have passed class 12 or equivalent in the same year, or appearing in the next year are eligible to apply.
– The candidate must be born on or after October 1, 1995, if belonging to the general category. The upper age limit relaxation of 5 years is given to the SC/ST and PwD candidates.
– Candidates who have passed the class 12th exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2022 or before as well as those who appeared for the same in 2021 are not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2022.
– Candidates who will pass their Class 12th exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2021 can appear provisionally in JEE Main 2022 only after they submit proof of passing their qualifying exam at the time of counseling and seat allotment process.
JEE Main Reservation
The quota system, which is based on caste, was established in the Indian constitution for a period of ten years. The aim was to help the backward castes to make up for the disadvantage they faced because of a caste system that had existed for hundreds of years. The reservation policy has undergone several changes during the last 60 years and today comprises a number of policies that are targeted at different sections.
The two main groups that have benefited from this policy are Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) who have been given 15% and 7.5% of government jobs and college admissions respectively.
Another 27% is reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who are also known as Most Backward Classes or Castes (MBCs). In addition, there are separate reservations for war widows/widowers, disabled people, and women.
How to Apply For JEE Main/ Application process
The candidates who wish to apply for JEE MAINS, must visit the official website of NTA and click on the link titled “JEE MAINS” which will redirect them to the online application form.
- The candidates will have to fill in their personal and academic details and submit the same.
- The candidates must upload their recent passport size photograph (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm), signature, left-hand thumb impression, and post-metric SC/ST or OBC certificate (if applicable) in JPG format only (the size of the image should not exceed 100 kb). Specification regarding the uploading of photographs and signature
- While filling in their personal details, the candidates will have to fill out their state code of eligibility as mentioned in their domicile certificate also known as a resident proof certificate issued by the municipality or regional council or any other authority set up for this purpose by the state government concerned.
- The candidate will be allowed to fill their choice of cities for the exam center according to their preference during the form filling process.

Joint Entrance Examination Main Marking
Scheme for Paper 1 is-
For MCQs – 4 Marks will be awarded for every correct answer and 1 Mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer
For an answer with a numeric value – 4 Marks will be awarded for every correct answer and 0 Mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
PAPER-2
MCQs– Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct answer and there will be a negative marking of 1 mark on each incorrect answer.
Questions with numerical value answers – Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct answer and there will be no negative marking.
Marking Scheme for Drawing Test – Two questions are evaluated out of 100 marks
JEE Main Result
The results will be published in a scorecard format, with the total and sectional scores of the candidate. The candidates whose scores meet the cut-off set by the NTA will be declared as qualified for JEE Advanced.
The final rank list for JEE Main will be released after JEE Advanced results are announced. JEE Main is used for admission to engineering courses in institutes of national importance such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
How to Prepare for Joint Entrance Examination Main
The preparation for the JEE exam is a tough nut to crack. But with a systematic and planned approach, it is not impossible to clear the exam. Here are some tips that can help you score high in the JEE examination:
1. Solving previous year’s papers will help you understand the paper pattern, number of questions, and marking scheme.
2. Go through the syllabus thoroughly and prepare according to it.
